Privacy policy

What this site collects, and why.

Short, because there isn’t much to say.

Last updated 2 October 2026

The short version

  • No advertising or tracking cookies, and nothing shared with advertisers.
  • Visits are counted on this site’s own server, without cookies and without keeping your IP address.
  • What you send through a form is used to reply to you, and for nothing else.
  • The newsletter only starts after you confirm by email, and every issue has an unsubscribe link.
  • You can ask what I hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted.
  • When the members’ area opens, your learning record there will be yours: download it or delete it from your account page.

Who I am

Privacy Action Network is run by Jeremy Bartlett in Victoria, Australia. For anything about your information, use the contact form and say it’s about privacy.

What this site collects

When you send an enquiry

Your name, your email address, your answers and your message, and a phone number if you ask for a phone call. It’s stored in this website’s database and emailed to me so I can reply.

When you ask for a guide by email

Free guides download straight from the page, and that collects nothing. If you ask for one by email instead: your email address, and your first name if you give it, so the link can be sent to you. To stop the form being used to send email to other people, each address can ask for the same guide once a day.

When you ask for your privacy check action list

Your email address, your first name if you give it, and your results: which of the nine layers are in good shape, the steps that apply to you, whether you did the deeper round, your starting protocol and scale, and any note the result carried. Your answers to the questions never leave your browser. The results are kept with your email address so the list can be sent to you, and they help me see what kind of help people need. Each address can ask for its list once a day. If you tick the box to hear when the framework course opens, you join the waiting list too.

When you join the newsletter

Your email address. You’re only added after you click the link in the confirmation email, and every newsletter has a link to unsubscribe.

When you join the waiting list

Your email address, a name if you give one (a code name is fine), and whether you’re interested in the version with weekly group calls. It’s kept so I can email you when the founding places open, and so I know how many people want the calls. That’s the only email the waiting list sends, unless you also ask for the newsletter

When you visit

This site counts visits on its own server: which pages are viewed, and which website sent you here, if any. It doesn’t set a cookie, doesn’t keep your IP address and doesn’t build a profile of you. The totals are kept for up to three years.

Like any web server, the one this site runs on keeps technical logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

When the members’ area opens

The members’ area isn’t open yet. When it opens, joining will mean your email address, the name you give at checkout (a code name will be fine) and your order: what you bought, the amount, how you paid and when. Your username will be a random handle, not your email address. Your receipt and a link to set your password will be emailed to you.

If you pay by card, the payment company will handle it, and this site will see only the card’s brand and last four digits. A bank transfer shows me the name on the account that paid, and a Bitcoin payment is public on its ledger. Cash involves no one else. If you redeem a card with a code, the site will keep which code was used, with your order.

Signing in will set the cookies WordPress needs to keep you signed in, and the checkout will set one cookie that remembers your cart for up to 12 hours. Neither will be used to track you.

Your learning record, once you’re a member

As you use the members’ area, it will keep what it needs to show you your own progress: the lessons you finish and the layers you seal, the steps you tick and when, your answers to checks, quizzes and review questions, the guides you mark as read, the tools you say you use, and three numbers from Start here (where you are, the protocol you’re aiming for and your scale). Your answers to Start here’s questions will stay in your browser.

Feedback and ideas you send will be stored without your name unless you ask for a reply. A story will be quoted only if you tick the box, under the name you give. A problem you report about a tool will be kept with your account so you can see how it ended.

Who will see it: you. In the admin screens I’ll see counts for each member, such as how many lessons you’ve finished and the month you were last active, but not which steps you ticked or how you answered. Other members will never see any of it.

You’ll be able to download your record, or delete it, at any time from your account page. Deleting it won’t cancel your membership or remove your orders.

If your membership includes calls

The members’ area will keep which cohort you chose. I’ll see the names and email addresses of the people in each cohort, to run the calls; other members won’t see who else is in one. The link to each call will show on your Calls page from 15 minutes before, and the calendar file you can download will have the dates and topics, never the link.

What this site doesn’t do

  • No advertising, and no tracking or social media pixels
  • No fonts, scripts or maps loaded from other companies
  • No reCAPTCHA or anything like it: spam is stopped without tracking you
  • Your information is never sold, rented or shared for marketing

Where it’s kept, and who sees it

Your information is stored on the server this website runs on, in a data centre in Sydney, Australia, rented from a European hosting company. Ask, and I’ll tell you which. Emails pass through my email provider, Proton, in Switzerland. Enquiries are read only within Privacy Action Network, and by no one outside it.

How long it’s kept

Only as long as it’s needed: while we’re in touch, and afterwards only what the law requires me to keep as business records. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe, and waiting list details until you ask to leave the list. Once the members’ area opens, a member’s learning record will be kept while their account exists, and will go when they delete it; orders will be kept as long as tax law requires. Ask at any time and I’ll delete anything I don’t have to keep.

Your choices

  • Ask what information I hold about you
  • Ask for it to be corrected, or deleted
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any issue

If you’re unhappy with how your information has been handled, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

If anything here changes, the date at the top of this page changes too.
